QotD: The Best Blend

What's your favorite blend or brand of coffee or tea?

i am a bit addicted to starbucks, much as i loathe to admit it. i am particularly fond of the cinnamon dolce latte these days. i used to be a big fan of their chai latte, but then i learned how many calories were in it (even nonfat.) so now i make my chai at home from bulk loose leaf chai, with a splash of half and half and a spoonful of honey.

QotD: First Celebrity Crush

Who was your first celebrity crush?
Submitted by Glory.

i didn't have celebrity crushes until i was older, because i was not exposed to media, and therefore my celebrity crushes were pretty lame. like king tut or characters from books. (Johnny Tremain)

i think my first celebrity crush was keanu reeves. i had his picture up all over my room. back from the bill and ted days. i also had a crush on his costar, alex winters. he was in lost boys, too. ;p

QotD: I'm Good.

What are five things you're good at?
Submitted by HapaLove.

okay, i actually found this rather difficult.

1. cooking. i'm a really good cook. i bake very well, too.

2. i'm good with babies. especially other peoples. haha. i find mine challenging for a variety of reasons, but i've always had a real knack with babies, especially the shy-don't really like anyone but mom-type of babies.

3. uh, strength related stuff? i was really, really good at my last job, a very physical shipping and receiving job. i drive a pallet jack really well, can park a pallet in a tiny space without much maneuvering, and i'm also really good at lifting and carrying heavy boxes full of stuff.

4. listening and giving advice

5. reading. i read really fast and i comprehend it all.

QotD: Worst. Job. Ever.

What was the worst job you ever had?
Submitted by salaryman.

i've had A LOT of crap jobs. many that have been very, very bad in their own ways. working 5:45 pm-6 am, for example and then turning around and working 8 am to 6 pm less than 24 hours later...
but probably my worst job was hoeing fields for Del Monte corporation. we got up at 5 in the morning and drove out to the middle of nowhere to hoe out bad radishes and lettuces (it was the summer between my sophomore and junior years). one day we had to spend 8 hours cleaning up the actual plant because a regional supervisor was coming to the area. mopping and sweeping out huge warehouses, bagging garbage, weeding the "yard" area that was really this football field sized concrete space between all the warehouses. it sucked. the good part was that we were usually done by noon or 1 in the afternoon, because it got so hot. however, it was summer so that meant we usually went into work on a handful of hours sleep after staying up until midnight or later hanging out with friends. i was glad when that summer was over, especially because i spent afternoons working in an office in the "big" town 14 miles over. so i had to rush home, shower and put on office dressy type clothes, and then hurry into the Adult and Family Services office, and file or type envelopes until 5 pm rolled around.

i worked with these girls:
(all but the girl in the blue sweatshirt, standing)

QotD: Favorite Poem

What is one of your favorite poems?

i love e.e. cummings.

[somewhere i have never travelled]

somewhere i have never traveled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look easily will unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously) her first rose

or if your wish be to close me,i and
my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;

nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility: whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens; only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

QotD: Happy President's Day!

Ever run for office?  (School, club, organization, politics, etc.)  Did you get elected?

i was always nominated for class secretary. it was always between me and tanya forrest, and then she'd cry, and people would feel sorry for her, so they'd vote for her instead, because "it was really important to her." it sucked. i never won. :(
